Muga silk is indigenous to the state of Assam and geographically tagged to Assam. Muga is a symbol of rich Assamese culture. The silk is known for its extreme durability.

“Mekhela Chador” with a blouse piece is a traditional Assamese outfit for women. Out of this three-piece outfit, one is Mekhela,the bottom portion is draped from the waist downwards while another is Chador tucked into mekhela and draped around the upper portion of body with a third piece top called blouse.
It is most durable silk and said that a mother keeps Muga Silk attire for daughters’ marriage passing a tradition to next generation. Wearing a Muga Silk Mekhela Chador is just like embracing Assamese culture.
Handloom effects – All handwoven pieces are unique in a way can be termed as ‘one & only’ as it differs from weaver to weaver. Again, one weavers’ state of mind at the time of weaving leads the beating that shapes the texture of the fabric.
