The origin of muga silk is from Assam, it is generally believed that it was during the time of Ahom dynasty  that muga silk is woven in the state. Muga silk is the rarest silk on the world. Muga silk has Golden natural color.
Muga silk is indigenous to the state of Assam and geographically tagged to Assam. Muga is a symbol of rich Assamese culture. The silk is known for its extreme durability.

“Mekhela Chador” with a blouse piece is a traditional Assamese outfit for women. Out of this three-piece outfit, one is Mekhela,the bottom portion is draped from the waist downwards while another is Chador tucked into mekhela and draped around the upper portion of body with a third piece top called blouse.

Handloom effects – All handwoven pieces are unique in a way can be termed as ‘one & only’ as it differs from weaver to weaver. Again, one weavers’ state of mind at the time of weaving leads the beating that shapes the texture of the fabric.

Handloom defects – Handloom Products may have slightly different shading in a single piece due to different thickness of hand reeled yarns and weavers beating techniques. There may be uneven salvage or missing threads due to the nature of hand weaving.
