Hand-woven natural silk
washing, drying & care
Sixty years of handloom heritage, cared for the traditional way
Premium dry clean only
Premium may charge extra, but the premium status of silk is worth it.
Hand or machine wash, if dry cleaning is not available
Do not use harsh fabric cleaners that contain bleach and enzymes. The wash cycle should be very gentle. A good children’s shampoo can do the job just as well. Also, don’t wash your silk for long.
Wash it inside out
The inside is often the part that gets dirtiest, from constant contact with skin and sweat.
Keep water temperature under control
For hot water, the temperature should not exceed 30 degrees Celsius.
Do not dry in direct sunlight — dry inside out
This goes for all the garments. Drying inside out helps retain the colours for longer.
Iron inside out, under a layer of thin fabric
Silk is a delicate fabric, so be careful while ironing. Use the right temperature setting, and for maximum effect, place a thin layer of fabric on top of it — especially over the motif or pattern area.
Storage instructions
Store silk fabrics in a cool, dark, dry place with proper air circulation. As a natural fibre, silk needs to breathe — avoid tightly sealed plastic bags. Instead, use breathable cotton bags to prevent creases and wrinkles, helping the fabric keep its shape and stay ready for your next wear. Please do not use printed paper covering.
Finally, natural silks — Muga, Eri and Mulberry — like other variants of silk, need attentive care for preserving their sheen and fluidity, and that is the key to maintenance.
